Reggae
Roots reggae straight from Jamaica, from Night Nurse to Satta Massagana, introduced by a DJ.
Reggae is a roots station. Gregory Isaacs' Night Nurse opens it, and the list runs through Barrington Levy, Peter Tosh's Equal Rights, Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Black Uhuru, Israel Vibration, Augustus Pablo, Alton Ellis, Ken Boothe, Dennis Brown, John Holt, Horace Andy and The Abyssinians' Satta Massagana. It goes past the obvious, with records like Max Romeo's War ina Babylon, Delroy Wilson's Dancing Mood and Third World's 1865 (96 Degrees In The Shade).
It's for slow Sundays, sunny afternoons, and listeners who want to go deeper than the greatest hits. Before each song, your DJ gives a short intro with a checked fact about the artist or the track, while the bass dips underneath and then comes back. Set the DJ to calm, and keep the talk level minimal if you want the music front and center.
