Spotify DJ alternatives in 2026: the options compared

By Nir Kalfon · · 7 min read

The closest Spotify DJ alternatives in 2026 are Stationz (an AI DJ for your own YouTube playlists in desktop Chrome), YouTube Music's Beyond the Beat test, and AI-run radio services like AIRadio and RAiDiO.FYI. Which one fits depends on one question: do you want an AI host talking over music you chose, or an AI station that picks the music for you?

Below is a fair look at each option, what it costs, and where it is the better choice. All competitor facts are as of October 2026, with sources linked.

Why people look for a Spotify DJ alternative

Spotify DJ is good at what it does. It's built into Spotify's app and catalog, it knows your listening history, and it has had years to mature. But a few things send people looking elsewhere:

If none of that bothers you, Spotify DJ is probably still the easiest choice. If some of it does, read on.

Stationz: an AI DJ for your own YouTube playlists

Stationz is the product we make, so take this section with that in mind. It's a Chrome extension for desktop that adds an AI radio DJ to YouTube. You open any YouTube playlist or mix, including your own, switch on Stationz mode in Chrome's side panel, and a DJ introduces each song before it plays. The music dips while the DJ talks, then comes back up, like real radio.

What it does differently:

  • Your music. Any YouTube playlist works. There are also 25 ready-made stations on our YouTube channel, from 60s Hits to Lo-fi.
  • Checked facts. The DJ draws on a music library built from Wikipedia and MusicBrainz, plus researched artist stories, and it doesn't repeat a fact you've already heard.
  • Control. Three talk levels (minimal, balanced, talkative), tones like calm, hype, nerdy and poetic, and 16 narration languages on Pro, including Hebrew and Japanese (the free plan narrates in English).
  • Price. Free forever with two DJs, Emma and Leo, who use Chrome's built-in voices, unlimited. Pro is $4.99 a month for 10 premium AI voices (120 minutes a month), 16 narration languages and a built-in ad blocker. See pricing. No YouTube Premium needed.

Where it's weaker: it only runs in desktop Chrome. There's no phone app, so it won't help in the car or on a run. And the free voices sound like a computer reading, because they are. The premium voices are the ones that sound like a radio host.

Best for: people who already have playlists on YouTube and want them to feel like a radio show, in more languages than Spotify offers (with Pro). We wrote a longer Stationz vs Spotify DJ comparison if you want the details.

YouTube Music's Beyond the Beat

YouTube has been testing its own AI hosts since September 2025. Two hosts, Mo and Flow, chat between songs with stories and trivia while you play mixes or radio in the YouTube Music app.

The catch is access. It's a YouTube Labs experiment for a limited number of US participants, mainly Premium subscribers. There is no permanent off switch: you can snooze it for an hour or a day, or leave Labs. A March 2026 review also reported made-up claims in the commentary.

Best for: US Premium subscribers who live in the YouTube Music phone app. If you can get it, it's built right in. More in our Beyond the Beat guide.

AIRadio

AIRadio runs 24/7 themed stations where an AI host picks the tracks and talks between them. It's free with no signup, on the web and iPhone, as of October 2026.

Best for: someone who wants to press play and hear an AI-hosted station without setting anything up. It's not the right tool if you want your own playlists.

RAiDiO.FYI

will.i.am's RAiDiO.FYI launched in August 2024 inside the FYI app. It offers themed stations hosted by AI personas you can interrupt and talk to. It was free to start at launch; we couldn't confirm its 2026 pricing or status.

Best for: people curious about talking back to a radio host. It's more of a talk and culture experience than a DJ for your music.

Radiant

Radiant is reported to be an AI DJ that sits on top of your existing streaming library, now Apple Music. Our only source is a 2026 roundup written by another AI radio app, so treat the details as indicative.

Best for: Apple Music subscribers, since Apple Music itself has no AI voice host as of October 2026.

Amazon Music with Alexa+

Amazon Music added Alexa+ to its app, and by July 2026 it was open to all US listeners across tiers, including free. You can ask it questions about artists, find songs from vague clues, and have it build playlists.

What it doesn't do is talk between songs. Amazon's marketing calls it an "AI DJ, music critic, and trivia buddy", but it works as a chat assistant you ask things, not a host who introduces the next track. It's also phone only (iOS and Android).

Best for: Amazon Music listeners who want a smart music search, not a radio host.

A human radio station

Worth saying: if what you miss is a real person with real taste, a human-hosted station still does that best. Apple Music Radio, for example, has live shows with hosts like Zane Lowe, and your local station never needed an algorithm. You give up choosing the music, but you get a voice with a point of view.

Which one should you pick?

  • You want your own playlists narrated, on a computer: Stationz.
  • You're a US YouTube Premium subscriber on your phone: try Beyond the Beat if you can get in.
  • You want a station to just run itself: AIRadio or RAiDiO.FYI.
  • You're on Apple Music: look at Radiant.
  • You're happy paying for Spotify and like its picks: stay with Spotify DJ.

FAQ

Is there a free alternative to Spotify DJ?

Yes. Stationz has a free tier with two unlimited DJs on any YouTube playlist in desktop Chrome. AIRadio's stations are free too. YouTube's Beyond the Beat test costs nothing extra, but it's limited to some US users, mainly Premium subscribers.

Can I use an AI DJ with my own playlists?

With Stationz, yes: any YouTube playlist or mix. Radiant is reported to work with your Apple Music library. Spotify DJ picks its own lineup instead of narrating a playlist you choose.

Does Amazon Music have an AI DJ like Spotify?

Not in the same way. Alexa+ in Amazon Music answers questions and builds playlists, but it doesn't talk between songs as of October 2026.

Which AI DJ speaks the most languages?

Among the options we checked, Stationz Pro has 16 narration languages, including Hebrew and Japanese (the free plan is English only). Spotify DJ has 6. YouTube hasn't said which languages Beyond the Beat supports.

Hear it on your own playlists

Stationz adds an AI radio DJ to YouTube in desktop Chrome. Free to start, 16 languages with Pro.
